Five Centuries of Craft.
Three Stops. One Afternoon.
Each village on this route has been practicing its craft for generations — organic farming, hand-thrown pottery and traditional woodworking — and each one gives you a hands-on role, not just a front-row seat.
Trà Quế Vegetable Village
One of Vietnam's most famous organic farming communities, using methods unchanged for hundreds of years. No chemical fertilisers — only river sediment and natural compost. Your guide explains the farming philosophy before you join in.
- Water vegetables using traditional shoulder-pole watering cans
- Prepare and till the soil alongside local farmers
- Plant seedlings in the red-soil beds
- Learn about organic growing methods handed down through generations
Thanh Hà Pottery Village
Established in the 16th century, Thanh Hà is one of the oldest pottery communities in Vietnam. The artisans here use only local red clay and methods passed down through family lines — the same techniques used to supply Hội An's ancient trading port.
- Watch master potters shape clay on foot-driven wheels
- Try throwing your own pot on the pottery wheel
- See the drying and kiln-firing process
- Browse finished ceramics and take a piece home
Kim Bồng Carpentry Village
Situated along the Thu Bồn River, Kim Bồng's craftsmen once built the wooden merchant houses that define the Hội An Ancient Town. Today they continue making intricate carved furniture, decorative panels and traditional boats using the same hand tools.
- Explore the riverside workshop and meet working craftsmen
- Learn the art of traditional wood carving from a local artisan
- Try carving your own simple wooden souvenir to take home
- See the tools and techniques unchanged for centuries
3 Hours.
Countryside at Its Best.
An afternoon that moves at exactly the right pace — enough time at each village to get your hands dirty and understand what you're seeing, without any rushing or waiting around.

13:15
Hotel Pickup — Hội An
Your driver arrives at your hotel in the open-air US Army Jeep. A short briefing on the route and the three villages — then out into the countryside roads.
-
13:30
Trà Quế Vegetable Village — Farming Experience
The Jeep pulls up to the edge of the most well-known organic farm in central Vietnam. You put on a conical hat, pick up a shoulder-pole and join the farmers. Watering beds between rows of herbs, tilling, planting — real work in a real village. The smell of fresh soil and river wind, the blue sky overhead.
-
14:15
Thanh Hà Pottery Village — Wheel & Clay
The Jeep crosses to the south side of the Thu Bồn River into the oldest pottery community in Hội An. Ancient kilns, clay dust, the steady hum of foot-driven wheels. A master potter shows you how — then your hands are in the clay. Most people produce something genuinely resembling a pot, which is more than they expect.
-
15:15
Kim Bồng Carpentry Village — Wood Carving
The final stop sits right on the river, in a village where the craftsmen once built everything in the Ancient Town. Intricately carved panels, the smell of sawdust and teak oil. A craftsman hands you a chisel and mallet and guides you through the first cut. Simple — but most guests are surprised how satisfying it is.
-
16:15
Return to Hotel — Hội An
Back through the countryside roads in the open Jeep to your accommodation in Hội An city centre, with your newly made wooden souvenir and a full afternoon of real village life behind you.

Real Village Access.
DDTravel is based in Hội An — not a booking platform or reseller. We have long-standing relationships with the farming families at Trà Quế, the potters at Thanh Hà and the craftsmen at Kim Bồng. That means genuine access to working villages, not staged tourist demonstrations. When you book directly, you talk to the people who will be in the Jeep with you.
What Guests Say.
Unfiltered.
"We got to actually water the vegetable beds and plant seedlings alongside a real farmer. That kind of hands-on experience is impossible to find on a group tour. The open Jeep through the rice fields was the highlight — the countryside roads are stunning."
"Three generations of our family on this tour and everyone loved it. The kids made pottery and they still talk about it. The wood carving was harder than it looks but the craftsman was patient and encouraging. One of the best afternoons in Vietnam."
"The Jeep is the perfect vehicle for this — slow enough to see everything, open enough to feel the countryside air. The pottery village was my favourite stop. I wasn't expecting the artisan to be so old and so skilled. She's been doing this her whole life."
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything guests ask before booking.
-
The tour visits three traditional craft villages: Trà Quế Organic Vegetable Village (where you join farmers watering crops and planting seedlings), Thanh Hà Pottery Village (a 500-year-old ceramics community where you try throwing pottery on the wheel), and Kim Bồng Carpentry Village (where artisans demonstrate wood carving and you try carving your own wooden souvenir). All three villages are within a short drive of Hội An city centre.
-
Yes — entrance tickets to all three villages are included in the $55 USD per person price, along with the private open-air US Army Jeep and driver. You will not be asked to pay anything at the village gates. The only optional costs are souvenirs or ceramics you choose to purchase at the villages.
-
Yes — this is one of the most family-friendly tours we offer. Children love riding in the open Jeep, helping farmers water vegetables, making pottery (they're usually better than adults), and trying wood carving. The pace is relaxed and all three hands-on activities are suitable for all ages. Because the tour is private, it runs entirely at your group's pace.
-
No experience is needed for any activity. At Thanh Hà, local artisans sit with you and guide your hands on the pottery wheel — most guests manage to shape something recognisable on their first attempt. At Kim Bồng, craftsmen demonstrate simple techniques and walk you through the first cuts step by step. Both are beginner-friendly and designed for guests with no prior experience.
-
The standard departure is 13:15 daily, with hotel pickup in Hội An city centre. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and returns you to your hotel by around 16:15. If you need a different departure time, contact us when booking and we will do our best to accommodate — earlier morning departures are sometimes possible.
-
The only costs not included are food and drinks during the tour (we recommend having lunch before departure), any souvenirs or pottery pieces you choose to purchase at the villages, and personal travel insurance. Everything else — the US Army Jeep, driver, entrance fees to all three villages, and hotel pickup and drop-off — is fully covered in the $55 price.
